Day 4!

This morning I started off by continuing to read articles about Naguib Mahfouz. Specifically, I read an article that briefly went through Mahfouz's life, and one of the stories he wrote, which was Children of the Alley. This book brought a lot of hate towards Mahfouz, which was also talked about in the article I read yesterday. Specifically, this hate came from the story's "depiction of God and the prophets" in Islam. This specific part of the article surprised me a little bit, as I didn't realize that some of Mahfouz's stories went much more past the boundaries of Arabic Literature that existed at the time. I knew beforehand that he helped further develop Arabic Literature into what it is now, but I never knew the specifics of some of the other stories that he wrote during his time as an author. Afterwards, I finished reading the article!

Then, I took a little break and ate my lunch! In the afternoon, I continued with my Arabic Lesson with Ms. Samira!

For today's Arabic Lesson, we started off by reviewing the sentences we made yesterday, and practiced them out loud so that I could get used to different verbs and new vocabulary that I learned throughout this past week. Also, we focused on remember different vocabulary that I learned in the past, as well as adding the same vocabulary to the sentences that we worked on translating yesterday. In addition to this, we started making new sentences, while also introducing new verbs and new vocabulary in the sentences. It's definitely still a little bit difficult to make new sentences, but I feel like, similar to yesterday, I'm getting the hang of it. Also, I'm definitely enjoying being able to learn more Arabic, as well as being able to speak more conversational Arabic! Afterwards, we ended the lesson!
